Sustainable Development and Material Management – Presentations from the S4M Seminar
On Tuesday, 25th of November 2025, the S4M project organized the seminar Shipbuilding, Sustainable Development and Material Management at Forum Marinum in Turku. The seminar presentations focused on tightening environmental regulations and their economic impacts on the transport sector, the sustainability transition at shipyards, promoting sustainable material management in the shipbuilding industry and practical emission reduction measures in maritime transport.
Speakers included Ulla Tapaninen from Tallinn University of Technology, Tomi Solakivi from the University of Turku, Miikka Härö and Niina Järvinen from Meyer Turku and Nani Pajunen from SITRA. In addition, experts from Turku University of Applied Sciences, Heli Aramo-Immonen and Janne Siivonen, shared what has already been done in the S4M Sustainable Material Management Maturity Model research project and what plans are in place for the future. Martti Kuutti from Fidera Oy also briefly introduced the tracking experiment.
