The S4M project organized the Cruise Ships of the Future – Sustainability for the Entire Shipbuilding Ecosystem – S4M seminar on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Joki Visitor and Innovation Centre. The seminar presentations focused on the future of cruise ships, shipbuilding, and maritime transport, as well as on the role of the shipbuilding ecosystem in the sustainability of the industry.

The speakers included Markku Ollikainen from the University of Helsinki, Ari Viitanen from Carinafour, and Navonil Mustafee from the University of Exeter. In addition, experts from Turku University of Applied Sciences, Heli Aramo-Immonen, Kimmo Tarkkanen, and Janne Siivonen, presented the S4M Sustainable Material Management Maturity Model research project. They explained the objectives of the project, the digital models currently under development, and the results obtained from the project’s tracking pilot.
